Celebrating Black History Month

The Black History Month event at SHS was the first ever and was initiated by scholar Jayla Mae Stephens. The event included historical context regarding the origins of Black History Month (BHM), conversation on why BHM is important to acknowledge and celebrate, along with narratives on how BHM is a component of American and world history. The event featured scholars from SHS and Gates Middle School.It featured original compositions inclusive of the piano and trumpet and the unveiling of original art, whereas the subject matter was a rendition of a Black female sailor. Our Scholars were great and this was an incredible beginning for a new SPS tradition.
