Post-graduate Planning

High school goal setting and post-graduate planning are critical components of the school counseling program. The School Counseling Department collaborates with all students and families to guide students toward individualized post-secondary paths, including:

  • Higher education
  • Armed Services
  • Gap years
  • Internships
  • Workforce

Testing

From college admissions testing — such as the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT), Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), and American College Testing (ACT) — to the Advanced Placement program sponsored by the College Board, the counseling department provides students with the information needed to implement a college testing plan tailored for them.

The department also administers the Armed Services Vocational Battery Assessment (ASVAB) to interested students twice a year.

Events

Each year, the department hosts college admissions officers and military representatives who meet with prospective students in small groups.

Counselors deliver post-secondary planning, college application workshops, and financial aid education and scholarship opportunities to students and families.

Scituate also sponsors a yearly US Military Showcase with officials representing military branches, service academies, ROTC, etc.

Event dates are published on the SHS Sailors Calendar.
