Gaga for Gaga Ball!

The Gates and Scituate High School (SHS) physical education (PE) department would like to thank the Gates PTO and Scituate High Opportunities & Resources for Education (SHORE) for their generous support in funding our newest addition to the outdoor adventure education space: a Gaga Ball Pit!
Gaga Ball in PE adds a high-energy and inclusive game to the curriculum that promotes quick reflexes, strategic movement, and continuous engagement for a wide range of skill levels. During a recent 8th-grade PE class at Gates, a student stated, “Gaga ball is fun because everyone can get involved, and gameplay is unpredictable! All the variations we play are cool, and I like that we can create our versions as well.” Mr. Schattgen noted, “Not only is Gaga Ball an excellent game for its physical benefits, the pit being located in our outdoor adventure course allows Gates and SHS P.E. teachers even more options when working with students on our amazing array of adventure course elements.”
Kudos to the Gates P.E. team, led by Mr. Schattgen, Mr. Flynn, and Ms. Sabolis, for their above-and-beyond efforts to make the Gaga Ball Pit a reality. They spearheaded writing the grant for the materials, and it was their hands-on craftsmanship that built the pit. Greg Ranieri, the SPS Health & Wellness Department, states, “The addition of the Gaga Ball Pit to our outdoor adventure course benefits all Gates and SHS students. Teachers have loved its addition as it is another great curricular resource for the PE faculty to teach important physical, social, and emotional skills to our students.”
