Science Department Celebrates Student Learning
Heather Allen (PreK-5 STEM Curriculum Coordinator) and Patrick Newton (6-12 Science, Technology and Engineering Department Chair) celebrated how SPS supports all students to be science learners. Across the schools, students are provided with a variety of opportunities to experience science in exciting and engaging ways.
Mrs. Allen and Mr. Newton shared data on the student achievement levels on the 5th and 8th grade Science, Technology and Engineering MCAS exams as well as the High School Biology exams as shown below. Special congratulations to Jenkins Elementary School who increased the number of students meeting and exceeding expectations by 16%!
Scituate High School also celebrated increases in performance on Advanced Placement Exams, particularly Chemistry and Physics-1 which saw the highest percentage of students passing that we have on record. Data since the school closures of 2020 is shown here:
Students are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities presented through The Flying Classroom and the 5th grade is excited about participating in the Invention Convention at Bridgewater State University later this year.
