PEAR Tip: Belonging
Sometimes when we feel lonely or like we are not getting enough social time, we can blame it on others. We get frustrated thinking that our friends or loved ones are not including us or are not putting in the effort to reach out. However, most of the time when that happens, it is not that they do not want to see us, or no longer care, but that they are busy or overwhelmed. When that happens, it is helpful to take the initiative and reach out ourselves. Consider organizing and hosting an activity like pizza and a movie, or game night. Or, you can send a quick text to see if they have time to go for a walk or consider FaceTiming while watching an episode of your favorite show together. The people in your life will appreciate your thoughtfulness, and you will get the connection you desire.
