SATUIT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
We are pleased to announce that the New Elementary School will be named Satuit Elementary School. After a year-long process using high school student research, input from the Scituate Historical Society and hearing the voice of the community through the naming task force, the School Committee voted to name the new school Satuit Elementary School. During the research phase of the naming process, many student groups gave powerful presentations on naming the school Satuit. One student group said, “Since the other elementary schools are named after certain people, this school will have a greater connection to the town since it includes everyone.” Another student said, “Traditionally, the term refers to the small stream that flows into Scituate Harbor. The ocean is a huge part of Scituate’s identity and infrastructure. By choosing this name, we are not only representing who makes Scituate special but also what makes it special.”
