Grade 3 Thanks the Scituate Police Department

On Monday morning, our third graders presented thank you Valentine cards and clay hearts they made for our Scituate Police officers.  This project tied beautifully into the Heroes Unit they have been working on in their classrooms. Additionally, students handed out heart cookies made by a local bakery, Milk Barn Baking Co. Thank you to Mrs. Berton for coordinating such a wonderful community partnership.

Plimoth Patuxet

On Wednesday, we had a great visit from John Howland; pilgrim educator from Plimoth Patuxet.  Third graders learned more about the reasons the Pilgrims left England to go to Holland, and then eventually to go to Virginia but due to storms, ended up near Cape Cod.  The space on the Mayflower was smaller than the Hatherly library, and 102 people were crowded in the ship for 6 months!  IT was not an easy journey!  They also learned how the Wampanoags created an alliance with the pilgrims to help both groups.  We can't wait to visit Plimoth Patuxet on Monday, February 26th!

Student Government Fundraiser

Our student government raised $365 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation by selling Valentine’s Day Pencils and stickers this past week during student lunches.  Thank you to all of the families who participated in this fundraiser! It was a lot of work and dedication, but the money will be going towards a great cause! Additionally, a special thank you to Ms. Pescatore, Student Government Advisor, who helped organize and make this week-long event a success.

Book Fair

The week we return from vacation we will kick off our Read Across America celebration with our Book Fair.  Classes will each have an opportunity to visit the book fair during their school day.

Family Math & Literacy Night

Please join us on Tuesday, February 27th from 5pm - 6:30 pm for our family math and literacy night! We will have math and literacy games, a bookmark making activity and you can visit the book fair.  This is a great opportunity to connect with other Hatherly families.

School Calendar Change

SPS Families- Due to space needed for the March 5th election, the School Committee voted to change the school calendar and move the staff professional development day to March 5th.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

What does this mean for students and families?

  • Students DO NOT have school on March 5th.
  • Students DO have school on March 28th.
