Transportation/Bus Stop Requests

The Transportation Department has had some issues with families requesting that their student(s) get off their bus at another bus stop.  It happened occasionally in the past, but it has been overwhelming this year.  Early release days are especially challenging with multiple requests, possibly because dismissal time is much earlier this year than in previous years.

The statement below is from the Transportation FAQs; it has been updated on the website.

Students may only ride their assigned buses and get on/off at their assigned bus stop.  If there is a family emergency or medical situation, parents should notify the school principal and other transportation arrangements may be made.

We know that we will always have exceptions, but you can decide if it is merely a matter of convenience or if there is truly an emergency/need.  If we do need to make an accommodation for someone, we ask that the parent put the request in writing and send it to the school (please do not give it to the bus driver).  The school secretary can contact Andrea Cochran to get a message to the bus driver.

Tip of the Week

image14-1.jpg

All of us are making decisions all the time.  Whether large or small these decisions can cause stress and make it hard to focus.  While sometimes it can be helpful to deeply think through all the options, many times we may actually be better off setting a short time limit and forcing ourselves to decide quickly. One strategy for this is to flip a coin or put the options on slips of paper and choose at random. Then check in with how you feel about the random decision that was made, happy? Satisfied? Disappointed? That can help you identify what direction you actually want to go in.

Fall Fest

Veterans Day Luncheon

image12.png

The Student Government is excited to announce the return of our Veterans Day Luncheon.  As a sign of Hatherly’s appreciation, our Student Government is once again dedicating our lunch to all of our brave Veterans on Thursday, November 10th. If you have a relative, neighbor, friend, or know anyone who has proudly served our country, we are thrilled to invite them to join our students at lunch that day.  We will send home a RSVP form next week to reserve space for our veterans.

Lunch Times:

  • Grades K & 1: 11:30
  • Grades 4 & 5: 12:00
  • Grades 2 & 3: 12:30

Hatherly School is so excited to have this event back.  We would like to thank our PTO for supporting our Student Government and Veterans and covering the cost of the veterans' lunches that day.

Teamwork helps the school work

image11.png

Once a month the whole staff works together to make decisions on family engagement opportunities, to design social skill lessons, to identify ways to support each other and to create activities that bring our school community together.

Boosterthon Fun Run

Hatherly Elementary caregivers — the PTO has partnered once again with Boosterthon to help facilitate a fundraiser with a week of character building programs culminating in a fun run to benefit our school. Our goal is to raise $12,000 for enrichment programs, field trips and playground toys and to strengthen our school community. This years theme is "Grand Land Adventure" and will focus on 5 national parks (Acadia, Everglades, Yosemite, Zion and Denali) and 5 character traits (Gratitude, Stewardship, Bravery, Perseverance and Wonder)

Registration for SPS Early Childhood Center (ECC) begins November 1, 2022

Beginning Tuesday, November 1st at 9:00, the Early Childhood Center (ECC) will begin accepting applications for new students who wish to attend the program for the 2023-2024 school year.

Due to an increased interest in the ECC program and a need to provide more opportunities for students with disabilities, a full-day session will no longer be offered. By offering four classes with morning and afternoon sessions the ECC will be able to provide a high-quality early childhood education to more Scituate students and families.

The morning and afternoon session times will remain the same and the program will continue to run four days a week, Monday through Thursday.

  • AM Session - 9:10-11:40
  • PM Session - 12:25-2:55

The ECC program is for students who are three and four years old.  Students turning five before 9/1/2023 will not be eligible to apply as they would move on to kindergarten.

To apply online please go to https://forms.gle/i1gbyhQfZQeXMwiTA on Tuesday, November 1.

If you have any questions feel free to contact Lisa Perreault, ECC Coordinator, or Tracy Riordan, Principal, via email.
