Hatherly Happenings

Walk to School Day, October 12th

Students and families are welcome to meet staff members at either the Purple Dinosaur Playground, Three Ring Road or Woodland Road by 8:15 on the morning of October 12. Each group will depart from their spot at approximately 8:20 to walk to the Hatherly School. It is such a fun morning!

Ice Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream

Some of the staff members from the Hatherly School will be scooping ice cream at Nona’s on October 17 between the hours of 4:00 and 7:00. We hope families will come and enjoy a sweet treat served by one of your teachers.

Feeling Grateful

As a result of the work of parents, Lori Bacarella, Melissa Guzek, and Alexa Houghton, the Doug Flutie Foundation has donated a communication board that will be installed on our playground. This addition will make our playground more inclusive.

Fire Safety Week

We had fire safety presentations on Tuesday and Wednesday for students in grades K-3. Lt. David Bortolotto, Dan Mendes, and Matt Regan from the Scituate Fire Department presented to homerooms about the importance of fire safety. They discussed; stop, drop, and roll; how to call 911 in an emergency; and making sure each family has an outdoor meeting space in case there is a fire. All very important topics! Lt. Bortolotto, Mr. Mendes and Mr. Regan are all SAFE (Student Awareness of Fire Education) instructors and enjoy teaching fire awareness to students in Scituate.

On Friday, September 30th, Hatherly School went gold in honor of Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month.  Students wore their yellow and gold to support this cause.  Our gold boots were filled with coins thanks to the students' generosity.  We raised over $250 for Boston Children's Hospital through the South Shore Action for Hope campaign.  Thank you to all our students who participated!

Extending the Classroom to the Outdoors

This past Friday Farmer Jon Belber, from Holly Hill Farm came to our school to do some farming with third graders in Mrs. Fairbank and Mrs. Gillen’s classes. They planted some radishes!

Here's this week's tip: we're focusing on Assertiveness

image5-1.jpg

As the excitement of a new year starts to fade, we may find ourselves feeling tired or overwhelmed.  It can be helpful to share how you’re feeling with a trusted colleague, friend, or family member.  Talking about how you’re feeling can help get worries off your chest and help you feel less alone. The person you’re talking to might even be able to provide an idea you might not have considered or support you didn’t know how to ask for!

Time to add layers to the morning routine!

It's that time of year again where we have chilly mornings and warm afternoons! It is important that students dress accordingly so we may go out for recess as often as possible. Also, please be sure to label all clothing that you send into school. Our lost and found is starting to collect items once again!
