Annual PEAR Social Emotional Student Assessment

Pear Student Survey

We are very excited to continue our partnership with The PEAR Institute: Partnerships in Education and Resilience (PEAR) to promote the positive social-emotional development of our students. PEAR, a jointly created initiative between McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School, conducts research to improve the ways schools promote social-emotional development. Increasing evidence shows that helping students feel good about themselves, their school, and their relationships will enhance their learning.

The Scituate Public Schools has worked with PEAR surveying our students in middle and high school for the past seven years and at the elementary level in Grades 3-5 for the past three years.

  • Our first administration of the Holistic Student Assessment (HSA) survey will occur in October, beginning on October 7th.
  • There will also be a follow-up administration in the spring.
  • See the link below for HSA Scale definitions and sample survey prompts.
  • PEAR will use data from our school for research and educational work.
  • Your student’s name will never be used as part of this research.

Designated school faculty will have access to these results. This information will help staff tailor teaching and varied supports for our student body as well as identify your student’s unique strengths and needs. If your student identifies more challenges than strengths through this self-report, a school counselor will contact you.

Unless you complete the opt-out form below, we will assume that we have permission for:

  • your student to complete the survey
  • information to be given to designated faculty to help them understand your student’s strengths, relationships, interests, and needs
  • research purposes

Opt-out Form (Linked Below) Must Be Completed By Thursday, October 3, 2024.

For more information, please contact your building principal.
