Optimize Your Sleep Routine - PEAR Tip

Pear Tip

As we settle into the routines of the school year, many of us find ourselves not getting enough sleep. We schedule too many things into our days or just can’t seem to turn off our phones or the TV early enough to get the rest we need. While those extra minutes may not feel like a lot at the moment, over time, not getting enough sleep has a significant impact on both our mental and physical health. Try minor changes to help you get more sleep, such as;

  • Pick your clothes out, and prep breakfast/snacks the night before for the next day so you can sleep a little later in the morning while reducing possible morning stressors.
  • An hour before you’re trying to go to bed, set a reminder to start winding down your body and mind. When you get the reminder, try to move toward relaxing, screen-free activities like reading or listening to music.

Even gaining just 15 minutes more sleep can help us feel better and perform better throughout the day!

Scituate Public Schools has partnered with the PEAR Institute: Partnerships in Education and Resilience (PEAR) for the past six years to promote the positive social-emotional development of our students.  PEAR conducts research to improve the ways schools promote social-emotional development.
