We had an amazing experience this week at Cushing! A quilt that was made in the fall of 2001 (by third graders in Ms. Dunphy’s class) was purchased by Ms. Sue Benyo (a resident of Naples, Florida). When Ms. Benyo got home she opened the quilt and discovered that it was made at Cushing Elementary in 2001, during the tragedy of 9/11. Mrs. Pam Higgins and Ms. Benyo presented the quilt to Mr. Williams, where it will be hung and immortalized in our Cushing conference room for all children, staff members and visitors to see. What a journey this quilt has had, to end up back at Cushing 23 years later!
Mrs. Marx’s fifth graders were busy on Friday with their water filtration experiments! Students were challenged with designing and naming their filtration system, using only three out of a possible five materials. After studying pollution, students tested their results using a PH strip! Excellent work young scientists!
Thank you to members of the Cushing PTO who were busy at work on Friday morning, tallying the results from our Disney Raffle participants! Keep those raffle tickets coming - this fundraiser directly supports our K-5 Cushing students for enrichment programming, instructional technology, field trip expenditures, and more! This fundraiser continues through November 17th! Thank you PTO!
Mr. Jon Belber from Holly Hill Farm joined us on Thursday, working with Mr. Smalley’s fifth graders, learning about composting! It was a beautiful day for outdoor fun!
On Wednesday all Cushing children practiced bus safety with our annual “Bus Evacuation” drill. We practiced safety when leaving the bus in the event of an emergency. Mrs. Brady (Scituate Public Schools Transportation Coordinator) was happy to share that we were the most organized school to complete the drill! Well done Cushing Cats!
Ms. Crowell reported that Bus 8 did a particularly amazing job during the bus evacuation drill! Great job bus 8 riders!
Ms. Jackie Abdallah and Dr. Stacey Sweeney led our K-2 teachers at our Tuesday morning staff meeting, focusing on “The Science Of Reading.” Thank you to them, and thank you to our early childhood educators! Halloween At Cushing
